What actually moves the price
The levers below are in rough order of how much they change the total. Most quote-to-quote differences come from the first two.
Hours — and the venue's cut-off, which caps them
Most halls and lawns stop music between 10pm and 11pm. Paying for eight hours into a venue that switches off at 10:30 is money burnt, and it is the single most common overspend in this category. Confirm the cut-off with the venue first, then buy hours to fit it.
Crowd size sets the rig, and the rig sets the price
Two tops and a sub cover 300 people. Six hundred in an open lawn needs a line array and delay stacks, which is a different truck and a different crew — commonly ₹25,000–₹50,000 more for the same four hours of the same music.
Lighting is a separate budget
Par cans are included almost everywhere. Moving heads, blinders, haze and a truss add ₹15,000–₹40,000, and a programmed show with an operator sitting at a desk adds more again. An LED wall is ₹40,000–₹1.5 lakh depending on size.
Generator
A sound system is the first thing to trip borrowed power, and on farmhouse lawns the power is always borrowed. A DJ who brings their own generator costs ₹5,000–₹15,000 more and is worth it; one who assumes the venue has it is the reason sangeets stop for twenty minutes.
Rig and de-rig time
Four hours in, two hours out. If the hall has a morning function, that time has to come from somewhere, and a venue that charges for early access will pass it on. Ask when the DJ is allowed in.
Dhol, and what a DJ is not
A DJ plays the sangeet and the reception. The baraat is dhol, brass band and lights — different people, different day, ₹8,000–₹30,000 separately. Some DJs add dhol as an extra; most do not include it, whatever the word "package" suggests.
